Erin here:

Well today we are in Guangzhou, the last stop before home. This is the location of the US Consulate that will grant Lexi her visa to come home. Anyone travelling to the US has to undergo a physical examination to ensure that nothing contagious or contaminated enters the US. This was the first order of business for today. As you can see in the photos she did not particularly care for this step towards coming home. I now understand though why her measurement stats were so off. The scale here is in metric, they hold the baby on the scale so the weight measured is not just baby weight and their metric to US conversion chart is off by quite a bit.

Guangzhou is definitely a change from Beijing and Chongqing. Since this area was under British control during the opium trades and then switched to the French it is very European/Western. In fact I think it has a very southern feel, kind of like Savannah Georgia (all the big trees) or maybe New Orleans Louisianna (architecture) without all the glitz. Everyone in the group seemed to feel much more comfortable here. One there is lots and lots of western families with chinese babies wandering around. Also english is very well spoken here, so there are no communication issues. And last but not least, we can find familiar food here. It may not be just like in the states, but for now it will do. I never thought I would be so happy to find a tube of Pringles or box of Wheatables in a local store. The weather here is wonderful, it's not as humid as I was expecting, much more like an early summer day at home.

Lexi is doing incredibly well with both of us. I would say she is bonding to us equally. I realize that todays photos are all Ken and Lexi. One I had the camera all the time, and two, Lexi is not much of a crowd or group person, yet. So right now when we are out and about she feels safest with Ken. Can you blame her, I think if I were a kid in a strange town with strange people I would prefer big strong Ken also. Now at the same time, I better not be out of her sight or she does start yelling for me.

Lexi is very talkative. I can't wait for her language skills to grow. This girl definitely has something to say and she wants to be sure that everybody hears what it is. When she is happy talking she is very loud. I feel sorry for our hotel neighbors. I don't think the cry room at church will be sufficient to drown her out.

Lexi and Mommy are both feeling much better. Lexi really is a trooper and has given us her trust very quickly. She is now taking to the bath without tears and if we need to clear her nose she prepares herself first but does not put up a fight. I think she has realized that all of these things make her feel better.

I definitely think that Lexi has caught on very fast that having a permanent Mommy and Daddy is pretty cool.

Until tomorrow, good night from Guangzhou.
